Fund The Climbs helps patients in treatment by removing barriers that stand in their way. Below are answers to some commonly asked questions about what we do and how we do it.
Fund the Climb Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2021 with a mission to help patients suffering from the disease of addiction. Basecamp Recovery Center is a for profit addiction treatment facility that opened in 2020 and is located in Franklinton, Ohio. Basecamp provides evidenced based treatment to Medicaid adult patients, while Fund The Climb provides support to patients facing barriers to successful treatment.
The mission of Fund The Climb is to remove barriers that stand in the way of patients seeking treatment for the disease of addiction. Among the barriers we help patients overcome are safe, sober housing while in treatment, transportation to treatment, food insecurity and personal hygiene needs, among others. Our 501(c)(3) designation as a charitable organization by the IRS signifies that we exist solely to meet the needs of patients that need support through recovery from addiction, and we uphold strong principles of ethics and integrity.
Fund The Climb partners with treatment facilities in Columbus and the surrounding areas serving Medicaid patients. Partnering with treatment centers allows the treatment centers to focus solely on patient treatment, while Fund The Climb, through donations, funding and sponsorships, can help individual patients overcome barriers that stand in the way of their successful treatment and recovery.
Our long-term vision is to provide support to reputable addiction treatment centers that provide evidence based treatment throughout Columbus who have patients that face barriers to quality care. Fund The Climb has launched in partnership with Basecamp Recovery Center, and this partnership is an example of a collaboration that demonstrates a relationship between a nonprofit organization and a corporate partner joining forces to meet a common goal on the basis of their shared values: supporting patients wanting to overcome the disease of addiction.
Fund The Climb must be accountable to our mission, and we must be accountable to the population we are serving. Our partnership with Basecamp is where we start and what we can do now. When we do this successfully and can share our impact data as to how we are implementing our mission, we can move our mission forward by partnering with other treatment facilities and extending our reach and our services to as many patients as possible who face barriers to treatment.

Fund The Climb Foundation is a fairly new nonprofit organization. Administrative costs currently consist of a portion of the salary of one development director, and costs for printing materials and promotion of events, etc. Office use, copying, phone and zoom lines, and other administrative services are donated to Fund The Climb by Basecamp. The Director uses her own computer and cell phone. Based on the budget goals for 2023 and what we are able to collect, administrative costs account for approximately 20% of the budget. The remaining 80% is designated for support services directly for patients, including the cost for safe, sober housing, transportation to treatment, and food and personal hygiene needs.
Fund The Climb has relationships with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board of Franklin County, Columbus City Council, Franklin County Commissioners Office, City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods, Franklin County Community Based Correctional Facility, the Specialized dockets of Franklin County Municipal Courts, among others. We also are a member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, and are affiliated with the Columbus Foundation and NeighborRelief.

Fund The Climb currently supports qualified patients who are in treatment for addiction by covering the cost of safe, sober housing, providing bus passes to those in need, providing care packages to patients, and providing gift cards to patients for food and personal items. As we grow, our goal is also to provide scholarships for patients without an ability to pay for the treatment they need.
Fund The Climb partners with Shelter in Place, Trini Foundation and Blue Hollow for housing, and is currently exploring additional housing partners. Fund The Climb works directly with the housing owners and pays for the costs for patients in treatment to stay at the sober living facility, which on average costs $100-$125/week. Fund The Climb helps secure donations for housing items, but is not involved with the daily operations of the housing facilities.
For nutrition, Fund The Climb coordinates hot lunches provided during treatment. These are provided by individuals/volunteers, and also by various food vendors. Fund The Climb also purchases gift cards specifically for food and other personal needs. Care packages including personal hygiene items are provided by Fund The Climb to patients as needed.
Funding can be obtained through various sources. One primary source of funding comes from individual, corporate and Board donations. Funds can also come from grants awarded through the state, county or city. We received some funding through a grant awarded by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services specifically for housing. We have several requests for funding pending. Funding opportunities are available from the Medicaid managed care providers, community grants from organizations such as Walmart, Costco and Big Lots, and also from Columbus City Council, Franklin County Commissioners, Alcohol Drug and Mental Health boards, the Columbus Foundation, NeighborRelief and others.
There are many ways to support Fund The Climb Foundation. Financial support is critical. Donations can me made on the Donations page of our website using PayPal.
